The Immigration Bureau has the following duties and authorities
- Legal operations concerning criminal examinations, immigration laws, foreigner registration laws, laws concerning the trade in women and girls and other criminal laws.
- Cooperation with and support of related agencies or according to assignment.
- The duties of the Immigration Bureau roughly correspond to the duties of the former Immigration Division, i.e. the command of different units which formerly consisted of 5 commands, 3 factions, 13 sections and 21 sub-sections, with the regional administration consisting of 54* immigration checkpoints and offices. Under the new organisation, the Immigration Bureau is a supreme command with the status of a central administrative unit consisting of 4 commands and one position group. The head was adjusted from rank of commander to commanding officer.
